ℹ What is Mangal Font?
Mangal is a Unicode-compliant Devanagari font developed by Microsoft and pre-installed on every Windows computer. Unlike Kruti Dev, Mangal stores text as actual हिन्दी Unicode characters — searchable by Google, readable on any device, compatible with every modern app without installing anything.
Mangal supports two keyboard layouts: Inscript (the BIS standard used in SSC and central government exams) and Remington GIST (a Unicode version of the Remington layout, preferred by typists migrating from Kruti Dev). Mastering Mangal means your टाइपिंग कौशल (typing skill) is future-proof and recognised by every government department in India.

🏛 Government Exam Speed Requirements
Always aim 5–10 WPM above the minimum in practice — परीक्षा में घबराहट गति घटाती है (exam nerves reduce speed), so build a comfortable buffer.

💡 6 Tips to Improve Speed — टाइपिंग सुधारने के उपाय
1
Memorise the Layout Before Speed Practice
Keys show English letters but produce Hindi characters. Memorise the full Mangal layout before any speed test — पहले नक्शा सीखो, फिर दौड़ो.
2
Drill the Home Row Daily
The home row (ASDFGHJKL) covers the most common Hindi characters. Make these automatic before moving to upper and lower rows.
3
Accuracy First — शुद्धता पहले, गति बाद में
Hindi exam errors carry penalty deductions. Target 95%+ accuracy before chasing speed. 32 raw WPM at 97% beats 40 raw WPM at 80% every time.
4
20 Minutes Daily Beats Weekend Marathons
Consistent daily sessions build muscle memory far faster. Start with 15s warm-ups, then 2–5 min skill sessions. Benchmark with 10 min twice a week.
5
Master Matras & Half-Characters
Vowel matras (ा ि ी ु ू े ै ो ौ) and half-consonants are the biggest error source. Dedicate specific drill time to sentences rich in these characters.
6
Simulate Exam Conditions
Use 5 and 10-minute tests on fresh paragraphs. Never memorise passages — exam text is always new. असली तैयारी असली हालात में होती है।

📈 Understanding Your Score
WPM
Net Speed
(Correct chars ÷ 5) ÷ minutes. Errors already deducted. This is the official exam metric.
Accuracy
≥ 95%
Correct ÷ total keystrokes. Hindi exams penalise errors — accuracy matters more than raw speed.
Raw WPM
Gross Speed
Speed including errors. A large gap between Raw and Net WPM means too many mistakes.
Characters
Correct / Total
e.g. 175/180 — aim for a gap under 5% of total keystrokes.
Graph
WPM / sec
Speed plotted every second. Drops reveal hard characters or fatigue — use these for targeted drills.
❓ Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to install the Mangal font?
Mangal is pre-installed on all Windows PCs — no download needed. You only need to add the Hindi Inscript keyboard layout: Settings → Time & Language → Language → Hindi → Options → Add a keyboard → Hindi Inscript.
How is WPM calculated — WPM कैसे गिना जाता है?
Net WPM = (correct characters ÷ 5) ÷ elapsed minutes. Every 5 characters = one "word", regardless of actual word length. This matches the formula used by SSC, MPSC, UPPSC and all major Indian government typing exam boards.
What is the difference between Kruti Dev and Mangal?
Kruti Dev is an ASCII-mapped legacy font — each key produces an English ASCII character that the font visually renders as Devanagari. Mangal is a Unicode font — keys produce actual Unicode हिन्दी characters readable on every device. State government exams (MP, UP, Rajasthan) use Kruti Dev; central government exams (SSC, Railways) use Mangal.
Which keyboard layout should I use for Mangal?
Inscript is the BIS-standard layout used in all SSC and central government exams. If you already know Kruti Dev Remington, the Remington GIST Unicode layout is easier to transition to.
Is this test suitable for SSC / state government exam preparation?
Yes. Paragraphs are exam-realistic in length, vocabulary and character distribution. The WPM formula matches official board calculations. Regular practice with 5-minute and 10-minute sessions directly prepares you for actual exam conditions — नियमित अभ्यास ही सफलता की कुंजी है।
Does this work on mobile?
The test requires a physical keyboard with the Hindi font/layout installed — mobile touchscreens cannot replicate this. Use a Windows desktop or laptop for all Hindi typing practice and exam preparation.
